Default lcd tv broke within three months help!!!!!!

hello there everyone
I would just like to share my familiar story and maybe get some good advice on how to follow this up

I bought a £999 LG 37inch LCD TV on 11th August and yesterday it developed a strange fault. When i try and turn it on the green on light flashes for about 5 seconds then flashes red once and nothing happens. Nothing at all. It seems to lose all power apart from the fact that when i try it again the green light comes on and does the same thing.

I have reported it to Currys and they have told me they cant get anyone out until the 7th November. is this response time reasonable.

My feeling also is that i'm not sure i want a tv that i payed a grand for 3 months ago fixed, i'd rather have a new one

It's my only tv aswell. no tv for ten days.
I just need some advice as to how i get some speedy resolution to this.

I've never had a problem like this before and have read some nightmares on this site.

cheers all

If you've only had the TV for three months, im sure you are entitled to reject it for a refund/replacement.

I would take it back to the shop and say that you are rejecting it on grounds that it is faulty, and will accept a replacement, or if not, a refund will be fine.

you have legal rights but the store are not legal experts to make a decision on your behalf. they are only allowed to go by what the companies legal department has authorised them to.

the store staff are not qualified TV engineers so dont expect them to repair or diagnose the fault while you wait.

your legal rights come with responsibilities. you have to give the company time to diagnose/disprove fault or remedy the issue.

you may get faster results contacting the complaints department or asking the company or staff who is best dealing with the issue.

companies can take a reasonable time to fix the issue. TV's and electrical goods are not classed as essential equipment so you could be weeks without it.

if however the product was a pacemaker, hearing aid or a iron lung. then you could demand imediate action.
Fred, why would anyone go into Currys or Dixons with a faulty pacemaker, hearing aid or iron lung?
You go to a hospital for those things so I don't see the relevence.
You talk some bollocks.

I would suggest the same thing
take it back to the shop and say you do not want it, they should take it in for assessment and once they see the fault they should give you another, and it the model is not available they should give you your money back in cash or in lifetime vouchers

I once returened a sony hifi to Argos because one speaker went lower than the other, they took it in for inspection , 10 mins later they gave me they value of my hifi in lifetime vouchers and that was 9 months later.
But you should get your money back in cash!

Read your documentation!! The store cannot (Note: not will-not) deal with a large-screen tv after 28 days.

In a standard manufactural warranty you may be up to six weeks for a repair - so the time quoted is completely reasonable. If you had taken whateverhappens an engineer is sent out within 2 days - or if you live out in the sticks of Scotland 4 days, whatever the case - it will be repaired/replaced/vouchers sent out within 21 days.

Unfortunately for the store, the law says otherwise.

Any manufacturer's warranty is additional to your rights in law; it does not replace them.

The store cannot simply tell you to contact the manufacturer under warranty; they are the retailer and they are liable.

The problem is that DSGI group generally seems to believe that their policies over-ride the law.
