Default What information can you have removed from a CRA?

Hi

I have been reading through lots of different threads on the forum and I have been trying to get my credit file in order.

Thing is there are lots of searches on my file and while a lot of threads say that you can't do anything about these, there are other threads that say CRA can only hold information such as CCJ's and bankruptcy as it's public domain or something?

Does this mean we have a right to get them to take off these searches?

I've found quite a bit of conflicting information.

Also can you request that they remove late payments?

This is an area i haven't yet explored. Hopfully others will be along to offer advice.

From what i've picked up, it seems common practice, for data removal to be negotiated as part of a full and final settlement. A lack of credit agreement is also a powerful tool.

Hi
I have recently reclaimed ppi from northern rock and during the process they did a new search on my file and then sent me a letter declining my application for a new loan!

After many letters I finally got them to remove this as i said I had not given my permission.............an d they did.

The thing to be wary of is if you get a quote from a comparison site this will mean several searches being done and you ticking the boxes is enough to give them permission.........appare ntly!

Check who have done the searches and then challenge the companies.

Hi,

You will notice a couple of threads I've done on removing credit searches. I have had lots removed just by asking!!!

Late payments won't be removed if they actually were late. If you know they wont will be quicker to contact the lender yourself..you can go via the CRA but if the lender says info is correct then you will just get letter saying info stays on and take it up with the lender..

Also if you contest something vis Equifax they give the lender 28 days to respond then they remove the info. Experian tend to keep pestering the lender till they get an answer.

This is helpful if you have negative in on your Equifax file only - challenge it via Equifax and if the lender doesn't respond in 28 it will be removed...

Obviously won't work all the time - in fact with myself (and wife's file) it tends to work this way on older or settled accounts better.

The searches were deleted which I'm happy about as most of them I hadn't requested.

I wasn't very clear about the late payments what I meant was if the late payments are a result of bank charges can they be removed (similar to being defaulted but not as bad)?
