Default Do Co-op bank close accounts?

Hi All, first post, thinking of claiming back my approx 2k worth of co-op bank charges, and wondered how many of the people dealing with them have actually had accounts closed? Have been reading through and it seems as if they threaten but do not close accounts in the final event.

Any info on this would be appreciated - my account is of a type no longer available and I do rely on it for many payments and benefits in, and lots of S.O.s out also. Have had it for over 11 years!

Great site, BTW, many thanks to admins.

They all threaten to close accounts unless you manage your affairs better. Speaking personally I have no trouble with switching accounts (if I have too) but that is just my opinion. Usual advice if you are worried is to open a parachute account just in case. On other forums people have made more than one claim and still bank with same organisations so if your account is closed this could be regarded as rtaliatory action and the OFT might be interested.

I think in retaliatory closures the Ombudsman has been seen to award compensation to the account holders, albeit this is not that much (I heard of £120.- or so)
But if they owe you so much money I think it is worth the risk
While you are going through the papertrail with them (pre-lim letter, LBA etc) take the time to open a parachute account
If you only want a basic one, Nationwide and I think Barclays do one, too
Do it now and then start your claim
