Are monthly service charges (normally £8 or 10) also reclaimable?

If the charge is for providing a service of some kind (for example but not exclusively an overdraft facility) then they're generally legitimate and not reclaimable. Sorry.

Thanks Advoc8. Thought as much, had an arranged o/d facility, so that explains it. Anyhoo, got £2400 back from the bassas, so that'll do. Now for Barclaycard, Mint and Argos

BTW we claimed service charge back from Oct 2000 to Nov 2006 and we've got it all back.

My monthly charge is around £8.50 and I am quite happy to pay tthis as I recieve of benefits, ie travel insurance included in the price.

This is not a Service Charge it's a Fee for having a Basic Privilege Account. What you get for your £8.50 each month does represent Value For Money, in fact, it's downright fraudulent ...

You are paying primarily for access to a £100 overdraft which, if you go into in any given month even by one penny, you will be charged a Service Charge of £25.00 in that month together with daily excess charge according to the amount overdrawn. Not to mention the Commission Charges :-/

You also get Travel Insurance which, if this is the only real perceived benefit, equates to £102 per annum. You can get cheaper travel insurance from places such as the Post Office for as little as £18!!!!!!

I have one of these accounts myself and am determined to get back to a normal current account as the Privilege Account is one big rip off.
