Default Elwood P vs Co-op

Trying to get some money back for my daughter who got herself into the mess that is common enough with the temptation of storecards etc these days.

Have started out with her bank account and sent Data Protection Act request to Co-op on 9th Feb.

Will then try to tackle the storecards if this is successful.

Does anyone know who is the financial institution for River Island? Is it GE Capital Bank as it seems to be for most of them?

Yes, I believe it is. I saw another thread (which of course I can't find now) where someone was claiming against GE Money for a RI storecard. Try a search on the site, you might be able to find it.

Thanks Steven

Have now discovered that RI are with GE Capital - suddenly realised it might be smart to actually turn over the statement she gave me and read the back - definite blond moment!

Anyway Have sent off a letter to GE requesting info on all her store card accounts with one cheque - my understanding is that you can ask an organisation for the info they hold on a specific individual for one amount.

Will start a thread under other institutions.

Default Re: Elwood P vs Co-op - update and interest question

Daughter got a letter from Co-op on Saturday listing all her charges for the last five years. Not very clear what is for what though so we rang them today.

Were actually rather helpful and even explained what we could claim for and what we couldn't.

They have said that we cannot claim the interest she has paid - which is fair enough but I can't help thinking when I look through these charges that she only ever paid substantial interest after they had wracked on heaps of charges. She has two separate incidents where they have charged her £140 in two days!

I am planning to send the first claim letter and spreadsheet tomorrow. Wasn't initially going to claim for interest on monies owed but would be keen to hear what others have to say.

Is it appropriate to try for interest on what is owed to make up for what they have charged her? Or is interest only claimable when it gets to the Court stage - would rather get it over and done with and loose the odd 100 quid than get into court battles.

have aread of my thread in the success sticky.
i got the 8% without asking & after only two letters.
from their reply to me, they were then under the impression i was intitled to get 8%!

i'd use vamps com cont int spreadsheet and see if it is worth it.

i dont think anyone has got it from co-op though.

Thanks DX

I'm leaning towards the 8% as I'd rather not ruffle any feathers in my first attempt. Vampiress spreadsheet is impressive though. Can you recommend one for the 8%?

Will probably get more confident when I get on to my daughters vast quantity of credit cards....

Sent off request for payment of charges on 23rd March and have received a letter stating they will respond within 4 weeks. Sending 2nd request for payment this week so lets hope that does the trick.

I sent mine to Delf house too.

They did take nearly the full forty days to respond and sent back a list of charges.

They were actually quite helpful, as when the charges came it wasnt clear which we could claim back. We rang them and they actually went through it with us and confirmed all the ones that I thought would be ok to claim for anyway. i.e. virtually everything but the monthly charge to have an overdraft and the interest charged.

Result! My daughter got a letter from the Co-op yesterday to say that they have credited her account with a full refund of all charges plus 8% interest - which we didn't ask for. Only confusing bit is we thought the account was closed ! Donation winging its way as soon as she gets the dosh from the Co-op.

Good week as just won HSBC for other daughter too!

Now its time to pursue the credit cards methinks

Can you please stick this in the win section.
