Default Different types of Co-op charge?

I have been scanning my Co-op statements with a view to reclaiming charges, and there appear to be several different terms used by the bank as an excuse for taking my money:

Commission (typically £35)
Service Charge (varies, often £25)
Daily Excess Charge (when overdrawn: £15)
Debit Interest (varies)

Can anyone tell me which of these (or all?) I am entitled to claim back? I have a standard Co-op current account.

Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere on this site. I haven't been able to find it if so.

I am not an expert on Co-Op banks but anything that is not agreed interest or is a service fee, for example if you are paying for something the banks are providing like advantage gold account or like a select account. Anything else is a penalty charge that is reclaimable. They all look that way to me. You could always call them and ask them what each one is for and then you will know for yourself.

Yes they are all penalty charges and can be claimed back, except for the interest which needs to be worked out using the spreadsheets.

the only charge I didn't re-claim was the £8 service charge as I was told this charge was for using the overdraft facility and was not a penalty charge. I got confused about interest so didn't bother claiming that back.

Hi - Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year - Let's beat the Banks in 2007!
I've just seen Peekay72's message and my daughter has the same charges on her statements - she also has another charge, this one is 'Subscription = £6.50' this is taken each month, don't know what that one is?
We've now received all her statements for the past 6 years and I'm about to try to fill in a spreadsheet over the weekend. There are some deposits of 'Adjust Fees' - I suppose I have to deduct these on the spreadsheet. Does anyone know what 'Auth O'draft CPI' means? Is that something that can be reclaimed? Can we claim the Insurance that was sold (although I expect it was pushed on to her) when the loan was taken out? This was of no use as daughter was already on long term sickness.
Lots of questions - hope some answers will be forthcoming.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info. Problem is, this 'privilege' wasn't asked for! but will taken your word that the subscription charge can't be claimed.

Can all the other charges be claimed?
also Where do I find the spreadsheet to complete the claim and is there a letter to attach to the spreadsheet?

the £2 (or any other amount (usually a eprcentange(2%))), does it show as "Visa Charge"? these are for using the card being used at atms that charge, or for using the card abroad, buying foreign currency in the uk, etc...

Thanks dx100uk for your reply, really helpful, hopefully can now get to grips with what to reclaim. Have read and re read all info in FAQ's, brain is now reeling and eyes darting up and down, but well worth effort. Will up date as and when anything happens.

Just been through my statements, and got more than confused about what to claim for. Found this thread and found it useful. One other charge I don't think was mentioned was one called "Fees". At first I wasn't sure what it was. I read through the thing the Co-Op call a "note pad". It's a comprehensive list of all conversations I had with the Co-Op. It came came with all my statements as a result of my S.A.R - (Subject Access Request). "Fees" in my case, referred to extra statements that I ordered every month (so I could keep tabs on my a/c more regularly!!). This was a "Fee" of £0.50 per extra statement. Hope this helps.

PS Just used the Simple and Complex calculators and think I might be owed something in the region of £1500. Just goes to show how much you can be fleeced and how deviously subtle the Banks are at what basically amounts to (edit) ! My a/c was in credit for the first three and a half years of my claim, most charges relate to recent problems. So much for Customer Care.
