Default Jose v Co-Op Bank

Hi all,

I have been with the Co-Op since Uni and have always hated the fact that this so called ethical bank charged me £25 for going slightly overdrawn, amongst other things. I haven't been charged loads of times, but once is too many (probably a few hundred pounds)!

I called them asking what the process was for claiming back my money and they informed me I had to write asking for a Subject Access Report, which would list all the charges they have made in the last 6 years. Then I need to write asking for the money to be refunded.

I have written the letter asking to be shown what I have been charged and I have found the template for the next step in the Library (Preliminary approach for repayment) and the shedule.

I have found all of your posts very informative and will keep this thread up to date as things happen.

Regards,
Jose Ruiz

That really is a good response from the Co-op Bank.

Hi guys,

Got my statements and it turns out they have charged me almost £500 on two accounts I have with them. What is even more annoying is that a few of the charges called 'commission' appear when I haven't even been overdrawn or anything...ethical bank my arse!

Anyway my question is, I am about to compose and send my letter asking for the money back, is it ok to send the one letter fo both accounts I have with them, or do I need to send seperate letters for each account?

Thanks,
Jose

Yes, it shuold be fine. I kept mine seperate for ease, but as long as your claims are both no more than 5 grand, you'll be ok.

So, I sent of the request for payment letter at the end of October and received the standard, and very polite!, response letter on the 2nd November. Wednesday will be 14 days since contacting them. If I have not heard from them by then what is the next step?

Regards,
Jose

Got another letter from the Co-op telling me it would take 8 weeks to investigate my claim, sent the LBA anyway. One week later I received a letter telling me that they were repaying my claim in full as a 'gesture of goodwill' as well as informing me 'as you are aware, the charges are valid...' HA! As if!

So I am well chuffed and want to thank all of those who advised and helped me. I will be making a contribution to the group as a token of my appreciation.

Regards and keep fighting them!

Jose
