Default Forcels v Smile ***SETTLED IN FULL***

Story so far (items in red updated to show current progress):

  • 10/5/06 - Data Protection Act request sent via secure message
  • 17/5/06 - Request acknowledged, £5 admin fee requested by Co-Op Bank HQ
  • 23/5/06 - Cheque for £5 received and acknowledged by Co-Op Bank HQ
  • 17/6/06 - Statements received. Total charges and relevant interest calculated.
  • 18/6/06 - Preliminary letter sent via secure message requesting refund of £1350 charges plus £12 interest
  • 3/7/06 - Secure message received offering to refund all charges but not interest. Offer accepted.
Awaiting statements now - expect that they owe me around £250 in charges. Also pretty sure that some defaults on my credit file are purely down to illegal charges sending me over my O/D limit!!

Requesting credit report from Experian shortly to check!

In that case things could get interesting here.

I recently started court action for charges plus default removal - will keep you posted.

I'm NOT Smiling!!!!!!

Just got my statements through yesterday - they took nigh on £1350 in 'service' charges off me in 3 years!!!!

Just goes to show how much money can be made off of people that don't have any!

Sending them a secure message as a preliminary seeing as they seem to actually respond to customer service requests submitted online.

Send requests by mail. If you send 'copies' via online methods, then that is fine.

Big difference between the £250 you expected and the actual £1350. Smile have been paying up quite well so far, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

Keep us posted.
