| | Basic Account Customer | got charges back. smiling now (a bit) I had been toying for a while with idea of getting my charges back; before i knew of the legal side i did write to smile to say how unethical their charges were (ethical banking? making money out of poor people?), particularly the £5 a day charge, which as I swapped to them to reduce my charges was a joke (work freelance and am often waiting for money so there have been times when i have been charged for every day of a month.
So when i found this site i decided to give it a go:
-sent Data Protection Act, got usual "thats £5 for each sheet", said you can't charge me for that, so they did it for £5.
-got statements, went through once, then (nb.) noticed their "commision" wasn't listed in the charges they had put in the bottom of the page (added another three hundred quid to their bill)
-sent letter ammended from the one here with a statement of charges two weeks ago. got standard "here is our complaints procedure. we are looking into it." replies.
-send a reminder via secure message last week.
-today, literally as i was printing the letters before action and about to send secure message, saw a secure message waiting telling me they will refund the full £1344.
-i do have a back up account (NatWest who i would rather not go back to...) in case they do close the account. will post if they do.
thank you site and contributers; i wouldn't have had the confidence to go for this without this information.
i'll be going straight to to my questionaire and giving a contribution (when the bank pay me)... |

Don't forget the survey and (I'll whisper this quietly) a donation if you wish to would be greatly appreciated I am sure.
Well done again.
