I am about to process a claim with Capital One on behalf of my other half.

As a rule of thumb, are Capital One refunding the charges or knocking them off of any outstanding balance and are they closing the accounts for those that try and claim off them.

I'm claiming on capital one and Ive been reading this forum since I signed up and I've never come across a case where someones account was closed after a successful claim

Neither have I, but we still have to remember that CAPITAL ONE is still making a fortune out of us especially if you have one of their "high interest sort your credit record out" type cards. They know that and will not be too quick to get rid.
