| | Basic Account Customer | Capital One..What can i do?! Hi! Basically i joined capital one (or applied to) at the end of may. Easy enough.
I sent off the relevant proofs of identity (driving license and 3months old bank statements proving where i lived) alongside a chq for £26, 000. I got my identity proofs back, along with a letter back thanking me for providing my identity.
Didnt hear from them for 2/3 wks, so decided to call them up asking them why my account hadnt been set up. (my money had been taken out of my Halifax account within 3 days of them receiving my identity at the end of may/beginning of june). I was on hold for ages, and when i finally got through the person just said my identity wasnt good enough (the bank statements didnt prove my address because they were online ones-the only type i get with the Halifax). So, i sent an old bank statement from January that proved my address, along with a letter stating that i cannot get postal statements anymore and that they are all done online. I circled the address stating that the account number, etc are the same for the January statement and the online statements.
I got a letter back thanking me for providing my identity. A printed out signature again; no reply to the letter i had written.I assumed all was good.
Waited ANOTHER 2 weeks (i had heard nothing still). I rang them up again, was on hold again and when i finally got through, i asked them what was the problem. My identity was still a problem and that they had sent letters to me. No letters. With much persistance, i finally managed to resolve that problem and was told my account number would be sent to me. I was told my account would be set up that afternoon with immediate affect.
A further 2 weeks, still no letter and no account number.
Eventually i had to get my mum to call them up asking them what was the problem. They tried giving me all this mambo jambo about the chq being in hold and them not being able to open the account etc, even though my money had been taken out 3 days after i had sent my identity and the chq to them. I managed to get my interest on the £26,000 to date back to the 8th June and was told my customer identity would arrive soon.
I received a letter which i had to fill in with personal details for security reasons, and a customer identification number (one that i would need to call up and use online-a vital part of the service considering its a completely online account i chose!). i filled in the details. a week later, still no password or reply. I rang them up and was told to wait another week and if there was no letter i should ring them up. All this time, i was borrowing money off my parents, getting into my Halifax overdraft and getting charged for it. I made this clear, still no sympathy from Capital One.
So i waited a week (i was away in Germany which i could not really afford by now, but it was all booked). I rang them up and was asked my security details which i swear i gave correctly. Apparently not. My service was cancelled so the capital one representative on the other end of the phone could not access my account. The line went dead. I rang up again, once i had found my customer identitifcation number, and was told nothing could be done but write a chq to me. I finished the call, and then realised that actually i wanted the chq for £26,000 and interest back to be sent. I took the womans name and made sure that the chq would arrive the next day. It did, finally theyre sorting themselves out and im in debt while they have been working it all out!! |

| Re: Capital One..What can i do?! I presume that the account was their newly created Savings Account ?
I can only assume that Crap1 are dabbling a little with their newly found skills of high street banking...
Personally, I would recommend they leave it the hell alone, as they've done enough damage so far with their credit cards.... But hey, that's just my opinon.
