I thought we'd established the 6 year time bar didn't apply since the banks knew the charges were unlawful all along, and we the consumer were only alerted to this in April this year following OFT ruling?

You need to PM Admin (Dave or Bankfodder) to ask, it's highly unlikely they'd see your post otherwise.

Some of the have had a discusson about pettiions in the last couple of weeks.

If 187 people have already signed yours then learly it shouldn't just be stopped as that would be quite offensive to those people who are trying to express their will.

On theother hand we tink that a petition needs a lot of consideration before the work which it really neds begins.

I don't think that one can take a passive role with petitions and electronic petitions and that the Internet invite this kind of approach all too easily.

The problem is that eventually it leads to fatigue on the part of people who are trying to make their voice heard and also I expect that it leads to chuckles and a blase attitude on the part of those people to whom the petition is addressed but whom it never reaches.

In the days of purely paper petitions there had to be a real campaign to go out and get the signatures. With electronic petitions, I am sure that there are hundreds of petitions which are started and then just dwindle into nothing because it is effortless and a petition is never called to the attention of anyone.

I think that if one is going to start a petition then there has to be a real examination of what the petition is saying, to whom it will be addressed, the possible effect of it and how the signatures will be obtained. I think it needs an enormous amount of work and there has to be a relentless campaign by a dedicated team of people to go out and get those signatures.

I am not even sure how many signatures would be needed on a petition that would really have some effect. I can imagine that it would be well over 100,000 and maybe a quarter of a million.

In a discussion with the moderators it was suggested that a petition to the UK government would not have much of an effect as they have a political agenda which is to keep the banks onside in the run-up to the next general election. Even after a general election the government will always need the assistance of the banks and to take action which will cause the loss to the banks of £4.5 billions per year is scarcely conceivable. It is an ideal issue for parties in opposition, but not for parties once they are in government.

We rather thought that a European petition to the European Petitions Committee would be rather more useful.

I am very sorry because I have not read your petition that I would suggest that at this point it might be an idea for you to contact Vampiress who raised the subject amongst the moderators in the first place.

We would be very interested in supporting a properly thought out and properly run petition campaign -- but it would have to be very carefully planned for it to stand any chance of success.

I believe that if a few of us get together we can make a properly thought out petition with the legal arguments.

The problem with the No. 10 petition website is that it limits the amount you can write, I would be happy as a web programmer to set up a petition on one of my sites if somebody could help with the exact text. Further, people would have to submit their e-mail addresses and postal addresses to prevent double signing.

Also, who exactly the petition should go to would be interesting, so far I have this;
Financial Services Authority (FSA)
Office of Fair Trading (OFT)
Information Commissioners Office (Information Commissioners Office)
Prime Ministers Office (PMO)
Lord Chancellors Office
Prime Ministers Strategy Unit
Department of Trade & Industry (DTi)
Department for Communities & Local Government
Department for Education & Skills (DfES)
Department of Health (DoH)
Deputy Prime Ministers Office
HM Treasury
Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA)
Department for Work & Pensions (DWP)
Government Legal System (GLS)
The British Monarchy
The United Kingdom Parliament
The Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Executive
The National Assembly for Wales
The Northern Ireland Assembly

Why so many office you ask? Besides for the more the merrier, the drastic amount of debt people are put in affects a large part of these offices, it causes less earnings, therefore less taxes from the average citizen, it also means more benefits, less money invested in childrens and adults education by the person/parents themselves, less money invested in healthcare, needing more free prescriptions, causing more money to be spent on trying to solve depression, less money onto private healthcare (I myself managed to pay for a private consultants appointment from one set of bank charges refunded, which took me off from the NHS waiting time of 6 months for such a consultant - specialist spinal surgeon, during which time I would have become sicker), causing more deaths and suicides, causing more poverty and ASBO's and we could go on and on and on. While some of these offices could not regulate or propose such changes to the law, their lobbying can definitely help.

I know my post is long, but all responses would be appreciated, this is just a starting list.

BankFodder people are not listening and are reading your view as a tacit endorsement on this site of an e petition. Can I ask if you are happy for the petition to be on the forum at the moment?

I assumed from BankFodders earlier post on this thread, and the fact it wasn't stopped at that time, that this was enough of an ok.

I dont take that as an endoresment, just a statement of fact. I havn't signed the petition.

The issue of petitions and posting of them is being debated at this time. Further directions will be issued shortly.
