Financial Ombudsman - a recommendation

hi! i have been charged so many times and have had a few refunds as good will gestures. would this affect my claim? i also have a personal loan with my bank will this be a problem? i struggle to keep up with rising bills and regualarly rob peter to pay paul which is why i go over sometimes. it just isnt fair that the banks can charge me and for the charges they impose on my account. and why are they so much?

Hi,

I had the same issue with my bank. I just added back any refunds onto the spreadsheet when I listed all my charges. As long as you put the correct dates in then it doesnt affect the interest statement at all and gives you the right figure at the bottom.

I would also recommend you start your own thread.

	Are you letting your bank keep your money Are you giving away thousands of pounds?? Many people aren't claiming all of the money they are entitled to when they make their bank charges claims. You have been forced to pay unfair bank charges. Have you forgotten that your bank has charged you inteest on those charges? If you are overdrawn and the bank owes you charges - then your overdraft is made up of charges - money which you bank owes you. Yet you are paying interest to the bank - on your own money!!! The Financial Ombudsman is a quango run by the banks themselves and as such has no vested interest in offering a fair service to the general public. What we need to put pressure on is the government itself to regulate the clearing banks.

These banks are allowed by charter to operate outside the laws of England when dealing with the nations finances and as such are allowed to get away with ripping us off at every oportunity. Clearance times have increased in the last few years despite pressure from the OFT and other bodies. The banks use it to manipulate our money and increse their revenue. I know this a bit off thread so please could the moderators move it if they wish.. Great work peeps...

	The Financial Ombudsman Service For the most part, don't bother. The Ombudsman is an industry arranged service which is under-resourced, takes too long, lacks clear transparency. You have no idea what evidence the FOS has received from the bank or how your complain has really been handled. The FOS is the preferred complaints route for the banking industry. The county court is to be preferred by consumers for its speed, openness, the quality of its awards and also because it will award 8% interest on top of any damages won by you. The Ombudsman should normally be used to solving little technical difficulties or customer service problems which you have expereinced with your bank.

FWIW This seems well on-thread to me. It echoes my personal suspicions about the FO.

Can it be substantiated, though, Skyclad ?

Not a challenge as such - I genuinely don't know who really runs it, and I don't know how to find out.
