Default question about paying for statements

I wrote to cahoot asking them to send me an account of all charges levied by them since I opened my credit card account (approx 4 years ago).

I received this reply:

Thank you for contacting cahoot.

To order a duplicate statement log onto your homepage, select your account then:

- Click on 'account manager'
- Duplicate paper statement'

They'll then be with you within a week. You'll be charged £5 for each monthly statement you've asked for.

Don't forget you can view and print your statements for the last 12 months. To view these log onto your personal homepage select your account and click on 'statement'.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Do I need to pay for this information or are they just stalling me?

If you used the template letter provided in the template library, then you have only to pay the £10 you sent with it. Further to this, their 40 days to respond fully to that request began the day they received the cheque - and if they have not replied in that time then you can both report them to the Information Commissioner (this is a BIG thing) and also take them to court to obtain an order that they comply.

THIS is the letter I'm talking about.

If you requested statements in the normal way, they are quite correct in their reply. That's why the template letters are there.

I got a similar response from cahoot when I made the Data Protection Act request. They are trying to fob you off. If you look in the thread regarding my case with cahoot (Dinghy v cahoot 6QZ24969) you can see all the correspondance I've had with them.

You can see with mine they then attempted to half the cost "as a gesture of goodwill" but they will provide the information eventually !

Are you using the secure e-messaging facility ? It makes it a lot quicker/easier to deal with.
