Something with my bank has just come to my attention and was hoping for a bit of advice.
I bank with Cahoot and am currently not working (not entitled to JSA either has hubby works) so my account is used soley to pay credit cards with money transfered in to it.
I have a Cahoot credit card also with a direct debit set for the start of each month. I have just logged on as my current account card has just been declined at an online shop and this is where I spotted the mistake.
My credit card statment shows payment receieved in full on Dec 2nd so I automatically take it yesterday that what is left in my account as payment has been made and after the bills is spare so buy food yesterday. Just tried to use my card and was declined so logged on to my account and it has been pushed over my overdraft by my direct debit for the credit card so look back a few months and have this:
Dec 2nd CC paid
Dec 5th taken out of current account
Nov 1st CC paid
Nov 6th (!!) taken
Oct 2nd CC paid
Oct 5th taken
Sept 2nd CC paid
Sept 5th taken.
I phoned Cahoot to be told that they are doing me a favour by honouring each payment and backdating it on my credit card so I don't recieve a charge on it knowing full well that by taking out the money a few days later there will not be sufficient funds in the account to cover it thus getting a lovely charge+interest for going over my overdraft. Also was told that it is common practice for them to take a direct debit out later than the date shown and backdate it & that I should check my current account aswell as my credit card statments. Fair enough, but that still doesn't make it right
Sorry but to me that is not right & was hoping for some advice on the matter as I'm sure this situation goes back a lot longer than September.
