Hi Josh,

My friend asked about a Halifax Treasurers account today, he even managed to get an appointment with his branch manager, however the manager explained to him that he would not be able to open a Treasurers account as this is an account designed for clubs (swimming, cricket, rugby clubs etc), particularly club secretaries. It does not extend to companies. Also the EasyKard business accounts will not accept cheques, postal orders or bankers drafts paid out in your company name, they must be made out to EasyKard. So back to square one! Any ideas guys?

Thanks.

The easkard is not a bank account.

Hi Josh,

I know that Easykard isnt a bank account he knows that too, we were just seeing whether you could pay a cheque in in the company name for a business credit card account. I dare say he will give NatWest a go now.

Hello Josh,

He tried NatWest yesterday, they do a business account for people with adverse credit history but they declined to open an account up for him. He owes them about £2000 from a student account from 3 years ago!

Any other suggestions, he has cheques building up now with nowhere to deposit them, he just simply wants an account to pay in money!!

Hi TC.

Yes he will get instantly rejected as soon as they check his name on the system. They wont bother running a credit check.

Dose your freind have any money to put into an account?

Have you done a search on some of the comparison sites?

I did a quick search, and there seems to be a fair range of free business accounts (No monthly fees or transaction charges).

Otherwise, I read recently that Nationwide are currently prioritising getting new accounts as their main business objective (as opposed to mortgages, loans etc). If they have business accounts they would probably jump though hoops to get him as a customer.

Otherwise, if it were me personally I would just get him to instruct any clients to make cheques out personally, and then clear them through a personal account.
There are no laws to prevent anyone doing this (so long as income and expenditure accounts are all kept properly and all due taxes paid etc).
Banks just don't like the idea cos they think they have some sort of right to make more money from business accounts.

Lastly, there is always the option of opening a basic personal account with someone, then after a few months of good operation applying for a business account with them (geez...... you'd think they were doing us a favour by having the pleasure and use of our money)

Pm is right TC.

However Banks are verry fussy on taking on new business these days.

If he really wants a business account in this country look into registering a Limited company.

Though if you meat the opening criteria this may sound verry strange you still may be rejected if you have ccj's and defaults.

Has your freind already completed the work is that why he has been paid by cheque?

I was asking becase PM's suggestion was a good one under these circumstances.

Hello Guys,

I thought I would post this link here too. The FSA has just extended the waiver by six months - nothing really that surprising.

Hardly surprising really. This is after all the FSA, financed and supported by the banks.
Will be interesting to see if the courts continue to agree ?

The reputation system on CAG is set up in such a way that if you have recently given someone a positive rep, then you cannot do so again until you have done the same to some others.
I suppose this is to stop members grouping together and bumping up each others points, thus giving them a false or undeserved reputation.
