Default Barclays business account and £35 daily charges

Just thought that i'd put down something that recently happened to a friend of mine who ran a local post office and conveinence store.

He had an arranged overdraft of £3,000 which was in place when he received a phone call from the business manager at the local Barclays branch.

Said business manager told him that he was overdrawn which he already knew, however to his surprise the woman said that he was now being charged £35 a day because she had removed his overdraft. To say he was shocked was an understatement, and the worry over the situation they now found themselves in was enough to get his partner into a state where she had to take anti-depressents.

Luckily I had spoke to him earlier about my reclaiming charges, so he confided what had happened to me. Obviously he hadn't been given notice of any kind in writing, so the situation was not a fair one or I would imagine legal...... so he complained and the charges were refunded.

Next thing happens is that he has a stroke of luck, and someone offers to pay a substantial amount for his business - six figures plus. The payment going into his Barclays account.

All of a sudden Barclays want to become his best friend, want to help him invest his money and can't do enough for him.

Unsurprisingly he mentioned the period when they were on his back six months earlier, sticks two fingers upto them and transfers all his money to the Alliance & Leicester.

So the motto of this story is that Barclays are a bunch of two face shisters. And I say that without fear of defamation considerring what he told me in detail.

I sort of know the feeling, except I have not, sadly, had anyone offer to buy my Business for a six-figure sum!

I have a little while to go before I can give Barclays the old two finger salute...followed by the one finger salute with my other hand!

But my day will come!

Cheers,
BRW

-Amazing.When I took out my Business bank account with Barclays-one of the main considerations was the first 6 months free banking-or so I thought.
It did not cover the Auto Entries-45p for each cheque that you pay in.....hidden commission charges-and the theres the insurance and Pension services that they want you to sign up for....not really free at all..

My arguement in claiming my charges back was that they told me I could NOT claim commission charges since they were services..I told them my interpretation of commission was that it was normally seen as reward or earned....if by taking commission every month and knowingly taking the account overdrawn as a result-which in turn creates charges-then thats not my idea of worthy commission-in fact its bad management.I noticed too that their systems were configured in such a way that they would always get their commission before anything went out-so they had capabilities to override-I call that manual intervention but they would not admit to it......I claimed the commission charges on my Barclays round 1 and they paid out-although earlier said they wouldnt entertain them.....talk about double standards ?
I just told them its ok-I am prepared to let the Judge decide-case closed......and of course settled.

Hello Martin3030!

I think I'll have to take them on, certainly for the Private Accounts, but also for a Business Account.

They have allowed all to creep over agreed limits, but when I asked to have the Business OD authorised (we're only talking 5k of facility here), they refused.

Seems they are happier to let the £30 and £35 fees keep rolling in, which amounts to exploiting their fiduciary relationship somewhat.

I note the £30 Paid Referral fees are never shown until the Quarterly Account Bill lands on the Doormat! That's when you get to see just how many they have managed to engineer.

Cheers,
BRW
