Hi
For ages I have been with Bulldog for my telephone and broadband. I have been paying £40 a month which included a fixed IP (which I needed for my IP Sec Tunnel for work).
I now dont need a fixed IP and want to save some money, so looked at changing my provider.
Sky's option was the one that suits me best but you need a BT line.
I phoned BT and they said that it would cost £125 to re-connect back to them
I then found out about something called "Return to Donor" which basically meant that I could go back to BT for free as long as I signed a 12 month at a cost of £10.50 a month.
My Sky broadband and Calls Package would then cost me £10 a month, saving me about £20 per month.
The key to this working is to not deal with Pipex at all, let BT do the work.
Call BT on 0800 121 8085
Mention 'Return to Donor' as early in the conversation as possible.
They will then transfer you to the 'Customer Options' dept.
Sign up for a min 12 month contract.
Tell them you want to keep your number.
Let BT get on with telling Pipex that you dont want them any more.
It takes BT 11 working days before they can get you away from Pipex, then a few days later I can contact Sky to get their broadband and calls package, which takes up to 15 working days but is normally quicker.
BEWARE: I have heard stories that Pipex will still try to charge you for their service even after you have been disconnected from them.
Make sure that you cancel your DD with your bank, and argue with Pipex should they try it on!!!
I will have some days without any internet access, but work have given me a BT Anywhere Card to use, so I can carry on surfing.
I hope this helps anyone who is having issues getting away from Bulldog/Pipex
