| | Classic Account Customer | Re: Davenport Lyons going against file sharers Every now and then, friends of mine ask me to have alook at their pc, for spyware, malware, etc. Recently, I stuck in my wireless adapter, with the intention of connecting to my own secure network, and found I easily connected to both of my neighbours wireless connection. A quick knock to both of them and give them a bit of help in securing their network remedied this.
What i'm saying is, it is so easy to connect to other people's networks, through wireless. How many times have you overheard people at work talking about the internet, and the majority say, I aint got a clue about it all, as long as I get online, I couldn't tell you if I had antivrus, etc.
I've already reported to the police about a car that pulls up regularly in our street, with two males with laptops sitting in the car for an hour or so. I actually went over, knocked on the window, and could plainly see on their laptops that they were on webcams with ladies of the night, shall we say! They quickly closed their laptops and drove off before I could actually say anything.
So, basically, it is entirely feasible for someone to pull up at the roadside, connect to someones unprotected wireless network, and download a game or film, even up to 6 gig within an hour, depending on the broadband speed, then, driving off with their newly acquired, illegal download, with the owner non the wiser.
Someone needs to inform people inpower of these facts before the heavy handidness of these solicitors upset many innocent people.
Oh, one final note, if you do have a wireless network, best not to use WEP security, as this is very simple to crack. Google internet wireless security if you need more info on what steps to take to make yourself proctected. |

Hence me not posting mine on here | Which just shows more bully-tactics by people who seem to think they own the Internet... |

My isp have clearly said they will not provide any information to companies / solicitors without being forced to by a court. When they do get a request they email the person involved and let them know they have been informed but thats about it. | The way I understand it is that your ISP must release your details for the prevention of crime. Davenport apply to the high court for this release under the guise of criminal proceedings.
And they then file a civil case....Go figure!
If I ever got one of those letters I would post it, it's not as though your details will be on there. Someone could scan one if they wanted to and email it to me and I'll host it. They would not have to know who it originated from. |

| | Platinum Account Customer | Re: Davenport Lyons going against file sharers File sharers Faites Attention! The French National Assembly has voted to impose a three strike law for illegal file sharing following a final debate where many deputies failed even to appear. This law includes provision for setting up a ‘High Authority’ that will monitor internet usage and ultimately decide whether access is blocked and for how long. The flexibility is to avoid the situation where an entire institution lacks internet access because of the illegal activities of a single student or member of staff. The new law could still be challenged under the French Constitution and the European Parliament, however. For the full story go to: http://www.out-law.com/default.aspx?page=9927

| | Platinum Account Customer | Re: Davenport Lyons going against file sharers Irish ISP Association Snubs Three Strikes Deal Plans to block websites that may facilitate piracy and disconnect users would amount to a breach of privacy, according to the ISP Association of Ireland. The Association says that such measures put forward by The Irish Recorded Music Association are unnecessary and detrimental to the development of new internet services and e-business. The Association of Ireland’s view may offer some comfort to institutions but the music industry proposals reflect a growing opinion that ISPs should monitor and act on unlawful file sharing. Irelands largest ISP, Eircom, has agreed to the three strikes rule after eight days of a court case instigated by a music industry lobby group.
