Default Help with Virgin media

My wife had broadband with virgin, her contract had 1 month left to run so she rang up and put her 30 days notice in, i cancelled the direct debit and was going to pay buy invoice when they sent one. Her final bill should have been £17.50 but she recieved a bill of £60, when i rang up to querie this i was informed that the price of broadband had gone up to £25 per month and that she had been charged £10 late fee and other fees which put the cost up to £60, She was threatened with a default so we paid, i'm confused because we were never told of any change in the price and i can't find anywhere that we would be charged, is there anything i can do to try and claim back the charges??

It doesnt have a breakdown of charges on there, they just sent the bill with a total, i only found out it was charges when i rang

That's unusual - the breakdown is usually on the reverse, or supplied on additional pages. (Unless this is simply a statement, rather than the original bill?).

I have had my fair dealings with Virgin over broadband. A real pain they were, signed up in October 07, had conncetion problems and no service over Jan and Feb 08. So asked for a MAC as I said they had failed to provide me with the service I was paying for. Waited a week, no contact, called BT about broadband, line checked and was clear, no MAC needed. Not heard anything from virgin at all. Have a great contact at BT who sorts out everything. Wiped £189 from our bill, got £11-79 disconnection charge back. Even got broadband service running before easter weekend as mentioned I wanted to go on my xbox 360 (live) got hme, tried xbox, on straightaway! Now that is service and also got a follow up email to say broadband was enabled...leave virgin well alone!

Now that is the complete oposite to me. I have never had a problem with the VM internet and have not had any charges at all with them.

I have had more problems from BT than anything especially when we went away and the landlord came and done work on the property by letting them selves in.

Bt refused to investigate anything to do with the problems we had when away and that was it.

I've had my fair share of dealings with BT and VM. Call centre operatives in both companies are muppets. Mind you at least VM call centre is in the UK.

I moved house last December and it took until February to get re-connected. VM blamed BT and BT blamed VM.

VM advised that there is a marker on the line from the previous internet company and BT hadn't advised or something like that. So I called them every day for about a month and in the meantime i was still paying for the service.

I didn't even bother trying to reclaim the funds as it would've put me in an early grave.

I'm not to sure which the best BB provider is. They all seem to have issues.

Best BB provider? Without doubt, and with a level playing field, cable BB surpasses ADSL both in speed and contention rates. So, given a choice if there's a cable connection, it makes sense to use this as the primary source - and putting up with the muppets as best you can! Incidentally, VM did offer BB tech support in India, dunno if it has changed.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. I had cable BB from Telewest before it became Virgin, and it ran smoothly for years without a hiccup and had superfast DL speeds and connection speeds.

Couldn't keep it as I moved into a new development and cable hasn't come here yet.

I've moved to o2 broadband........it's by far the best provider i've had........and i've had a lot.......speeds are great, it's reliable and the customer service is fantastic!!!

Well, what 'great' speeds do you get? I'm on 20Mb (which varies 16-20.2Mb).

well this debt on who the best broadband provider is could go on for ever any would get us no were as w all have our own problems with each and every provider.
