Default Broadband problems

Just a quickie whilst i've actually got a connection.... I've been having dreadful connection problems since the beginning of last week and have finally got UK Online to agree to report it to BT without the threat of the £160 call out fee should they not find anything AGAIN...

Downside, they've had to turn my connection down to 128Kbps as the problem seems to very very bad line noise, just to give me a connection.

So, apologies for not being around so much, hopefully things should start getting better now! (So he said on the 'phone anyway!)

Will be glad to get this sorted as it's being going on and for over 3 years now!!

What is it with internet connections lately. A lot of my friends are having difficulties with the technical side of things and the rest are having trouble with the billing side of things.

Hope things get better soon Dave

Now this should be a simple case of getting BT to increase the gain on your line.
There is a test number you can use to report any problems.
I'm just trying to find it and I'll post, but in the mean time have a look through these tips: The Unofficial Be and O2 Users Forum

Must disagree, my love.

VM have crap customer services, and the social skills of a hippo with halitosis, but their BB connection is the Rolls-Royce of the Internet. To the best of my knowledge, they are the only one who mean unlimited when they say unlimited, no cap, and for serious downloaders, their XL package would make a Chippendale cry with envy, which is the only reason I put up with their appalling idea of customer care.

In which case, they sound like 128k (formerly EuroFastHost - EFH)

They never questioned the download on their unlimited, and never made any reference to P2P etc etc. They were wonderful when they were EFH - at least in the beginning - but quickly turned into a nightmare when taken over by a bigger fish.

Connection good, CS pants.

Moved to Sky, no problems with it so far.

There are plenty are 'northerners' here Dave, maybe they can lend you some of their pigeons

No cap on AOL Platinum, either.

Note..... I don't use any AOL software, just the BB connection.

Yep agree as well.
But wasnt a takeover without it probs in other areas.
I am still not happy that theres no sky news (My package is with the phone internet and TV )
Customer services are indeed crap and if you get a problem and need to call them....you are likely to get the Indian call centre where someone will ask you to repeat everything 3 times.....obviously taken a lesson from Talk Talk who are famous for that.
After Sir Richard took over there was big changes because of his obsession with defeating Sky and also funding his battles with price rises.
The non DD fee is now a fiver (I suspect following BG doing the same prices )....
But I still allow myself to collect the 10.00 late charges as you do.
Since VM took over I have not paid any though.
I simply call their credit team and say I will pay the bill less the tenner. They say ok no problem.
My worry is Richards latest brainstorm.
He has put an £11b offer on the table for Northern Rock.
Existing shareholders are expected to help fund this to the tune of around £600m assuming the deal is agreed.
I know everyone expects him to win and he usually gets what he wants.
Effectively because the Government has underwritten guarantees to NR account holders they cannot lose.
Will be interesting to see what happens.
Although as we know Branson has been keen to offload VM already.

I have the Sky Broadband 15mb package. Get around 14mb down the line. I have had no real issues with it, once you get the set up right. No capping problems either.
