Default How do I get broadband in my new home without MAC code?

I really am not sure how to go about getting broadband in the home we have just moved into.

I have tried several sites to sign up (Virgin, Tiscali and Talktalk) and each say I need a MAC code.

The previous owner of the house was my uncle and I know his old broadband was with BT but he has since moved from the country and has thrown away all his old documents from BT so says he cant help.

I phoned BT's wholesale line asking for a MAC code and they said I need to get my new ISP to ring BT's wholesale line to sort it out. That sounds like a complete nightmare since the websites are all automatic and dont go any further without the MAC code!

I read that if you demand the code then they are obliged to give you it within 5 days but since the code is from a different owner I really dont know what to do...

Would it be possible to write a letter to get the old broadband released from the line and for me to get a MAC code so i can just apply for broadband with a new supplier?

Regards,

Dan

Since your uncle has now left the property, you should be classed as a NEW customer, hence no mac code should be required i would guess. But failing that BT can do a search and obtain the code for you, this might take time but there can find it. Try there website which shows related information.
BT.com: Broadband Internet, mobile and fixed telecommunications products and service from BT for home and business even better if ur uncle can inform u who his last provider was then u can contact them direct for the code.

In my dealings with BT Wholesale, after Sky delayed removing the tag off of my BT line for nine months, I found them helpful but limited as to what they could do to help me with my problem.
This may be of help, I was informed that the only time that BTW could remove a tag without permission from an ISP was if you had moved into a property and had taken over an existing line with a marker.
Call BTW and explain to them your situation, the number is 08001690934, menu 2, & 2 again.
Once the tag has been removed, there will be no problems with ISP's.

Good Luck
