Default Am I eligible for Winter Fuel

Hi all,
My I.Support is suspended at the moment.
I have made a new claim.

I am in receipt of High Rate DLA Care & Mobility.

Is this classed as a 'benefit' as far as the Winter Fuel payment is concerned ?

cheers

My daughter is on both of these benefits and she does not get winter fuel allowance only if you have, I think, 3 nights on the trot of extreme cold weather and then she got £10. It has to be below a certain temperature. It was so long ago I can't quite recollect what the temperature had to be.
As far as I am aware the over 60's get fuel allowance.

Thanks Surprise,
I am over 60 (just) but at this moment - only receiving DLA.

I was wondering if DLA is acceptable as the required "benefit" for such a payment ?

cheers

If you are over 60 you don't have to be on benefits, everyone gets it. It was £200.00 last year. I think it is £250.00 this year.

surprise beat me to it.
if you are over 60 you get the winter fuel allwance, whether you need it or not!
it has long been an argument of mine that there are a lot of people over 60 who are still working, earning a good wage, maybe wealthy, may have millions,,,, who still get this handout.
On the other hand, there are thousands of disabled people, who not by choice, have to stay indoors all day,,,,, yet do not qualify for this allowance (or it used to be eight pounds)
I know that some disabled are on DLA (which helps of course) but there are thousands of others who arn't, and actually need that extra heating.

You would need to be 60 during the week 15-21 September 2008 for an automatic payment.

If you qualify and haven't received it by Christmas you will need to make a claim, but must do that before March 2009.

The other thing mentioned in posts above are refering to 'Cold Weather' payments which is a different thing and is worth £8.50 when the average temperature where you live is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below, over seven consecutive days during the period from 1 November to 31 March.
