Default FTC and WCT query

In April my wife was made redundant and her income stopped. Since notifying the tax credit people, our credits have decreased and we keep getting amended awards firstly claiming back overpayment then increasing payment to pay back claimed back payment. Regular chats with their helpline rarely clarifies what's going on, apart from the issue of a further amendment. Now we have just received a new award for 06/04/2008 to 31/08/2008 I assume because that's when my 16 byear old confirms he's back to school, and it uses my wife's last years earnings as the main criteria.

Phew, I presume that is how it has to be calculated even though the chances of my wife returning to work for the foreseeable future are slim

I would stop taking to them and start sending them a complaint recorded delivery.

There have been too many instances of helpline conversations disappearing and overpayments suddenly jumping up- especially when there is apparantly no record of helpline conversations to tell them about changes of circumstances!

Write saying you are not happy that your helpline conversations do not seem to be resolving the matter. List the dates of the conversations. Give a timeline of your wife's redundancy. And send a copy to your MP- and tell them that you are involving your MP- as they are constantly changing your tax credits from payments to overpayments with no change in your income.

This might get something done.

I know exactly what you mean they are a shambles.

I have had at least twelve notices for 07/08 and they still haven't got it right. Now they are claiming an overpaymetn from 04 (I've appealed).

I just keep putting it in writing to them.......
