| | Basic Account Customer | Benefits / DLA mistake. Prof help needed Hi all
Newbie here - boy what a great & informative forum site.
Am looking forward to going through these pages bit by bit.
~~~~~::~~~~~
My case is:
I am disabled & in receipt of DLA - including Mobility.
I have just been interviewed by Council/DSS re my benefits.
I have been saving my DLA to buy a decent car - but have fallen foul of the benefits levels rule.
It seems odd to me that we can be awarded extra money (DLA) for mobility etc,,, then have Income Suppost stopped if you save it for the purpose for which it was awarded !
Obviously this is just the gist of it, but I was wondering if professional persons read these pages and can offer advice,,,, or take my case on please ?
~~~~~::~~~~~
Will start reading these pages now,,,
all the best to you all |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Benefits / DLA mistake. Prof help needed Have a look at the information regarding amount saved. As a single person there is an upper limit as to how much can be saved, same applies if a couple. Check out Jobcentre Plus, they will have all the information on there regarding savings! All else fails, speak to CAB as soon as possible. |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Benefits / DLA mistake. Prof help needed Thanks folks for your kind replies, GINAR: Yep - I now realise that there are a couple of limits involved. My arguement is that I am in receipt of DLA Mobility - for the express purpose of "getting around". This is usually held to be, get a vehicle.
I was/am saving my DLA for that purpose.
also: DLA is supposed to be disregarded by Benefits (& agencies) which confuses me further,,,, & I fully intend to take it up with the P.M as soon as I can put computer to paper. S.JOHN: I am on Middle Care & High Mobility - why the question ?
thanks again,,,,,,,,,,, |

Just to make sure you knew you could get an appropriate vehicle to help you through the mobility scheme. I know nowt about savings levels, just know friend who has new car on mobility and as long as does not exceed certain mileage a year, high mobility covers cost of it.
I have lower rate mobility so dont qualify for that and for me probably for the best, as I wouldnt be allowed to drive, best wishes. stardust. |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Benefits / DLA mistake. Prof help needed UPDATE:
I have now received forms from DSS about Overpayments.
The CAPITAL figure on the forms bear no resemblance to my bank statements for the period, which is where they got the info' from.
The Capital is also well under the £8000 limit that we are supposed to 'inform' them of.
I was under the impression that up to £8000 we don't need to mention it to them.
At £8k we have to tell them - & they cut the benefit accordingly.
At £16k - benefits stop altogether.
Have I got this wrong ???
I have the option to challenge them,,,, but was wondering if there is an independant group that I can contact first - or indeed a solicitor that takes on this sort of work ?
I'll start a new thread with this line,,,,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
When we Log-On, how can we go straight to our own posts ?
cheers all |
