Housing Benefit - When is it paid?

I have recently become eligible for Housing Benefit which my council pay to me by cheque 4 weekly in arrears. My landlord is a bit dischuffed that I will always be a month in arrears.

I have noticed that other councils pay fortnightly in arrears. I have read on one advice site that if my HB is more than £2 I can insist on it being paid fortnightly in arrears.

Before I go off complaining to my council can anyone confirm that this is true. I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me the particular bit of legislation/regulation that confirms this and where I might find it.

I presume the way your housing benefit is worked out, including dates of payment, is down to the housing benefits section of your local government.

I would suggest that you tell the housing benefit officer in charge of your area how awkward the landlord is making you feel with these rent payments and ask if there is any way to increase the frequency.

ask them to pay it directly to your landlord. that usually keeps them a bit happier.
