hi
my brother is on JSA and has been offered a small job with a little money, he asked me to post a query, in the past it was ok to earn a little cash and it not affect any benefits. has that gone now? if its still ok does anyone know how much he could earn without losing any benefit

You are allowed to earn I think £15 a week and still claim JSA, but the £15 will be clawed back. Everything earnt, however little needs to be declared.

Your brother can work as long as it's under 16 hours per week - if he goes over 16 hours in any particular week he'd have to close his claim, then make another one.

As for the money, he won't get to keep a lot - last time I checked you get to keep the first £5, then anything over that gets deducted from the benefits.

He'll need to fill in a form declaring his hours worked/money earned every fortnight and take it to the jobcentre when he signs on, along with any pay slips.
