| Can children REALLY be this thick?????? Just had a phone call from my 2nd oldest daughter - she is 21 in a few weeks.
Her father in law is taking her, her husband and their 2 kids away for a week soon.
Converstation went like this.
Her:Hi Mum, We have decided we are booking the holiday at the last minute.
Me:Thats nice, but don't leave it too late or you might not get in anywhere.
Her: Oh its ok, He always books a few days before he goes.
Me: OK
Her: I only have one problem, one of the kids doesnt have a passport so I might need to get to Liverpool and get an emergency one.
Me: Where the hell are you going? I thought it was just a short break.
Her: Wales
I didn't really hear much more of the conversation, I was too busy rolling around the floor with tears streaming down my face. |

| Re: Can children REALLY be this thick?????? You mean to tell me one doesn't need a passport for entry into Wales?!
We had a laugh about this last time in Prestatyn, along with the gazillions spent on the signage setting out directions in Welsh & English. What a waste of money... hardly any of them can speak it....and I'm not a zenophobe! The Welsh say the same themselves! |

| Re: Can children REALLY be this thick?????? last time I was in Wales (at least 20 years ago in some little valley called bryneg lewis or something - population 52) the inhabitants took great pleasure in speaking nothing but Welsh in my presence. Sheep S*****s! (ps - that term is also used to describe where I come from - please dont have a go at me!) |

| Merely a pocket of resistance, Gyz.
On a seperate topic, how annoying is it when somebody knowingly speaks thier mother tongue, whilst acutely aware there is somebody in thier midst who doesn't speak it? (when they know how to speak a universal language) It's just plain rude. My nanna used to get seriously hacked off with her then BF speaking Maltese, when he was Canadian and spoke perfect English!
Edit: I'm going to have a bigger whine.... I acknowledge the fact the universal language I referred to was English, but that's just the way of it. It's not my fault Mandarin hasn't taken off in the west!.
The likes of France refuse to give up thier mother tongue (cynical me thinks this is purely because the French won't budge, it's english after all!) I don't care if it's clingon as long as the world agrees to a universal tongue. Look at France, again, thier refusal to communicate in english has caused so many deaths at CDG alone, Tenerife South was one of them, I think. (The air traffic controllers will not speak english, so all pilots must learn french[and if they don't, sobeit, deaths will occur and thier friends and families will forever more be affected by it, as is clearly highlighted by the number of deaths already attributed to this matter]) This was the case, might have changed.
It's easy for me to say, since I'm british, and can understand the french viewpoint, but ultimately we need to speak the same language in terms of safety etc....
Sorry about the hijack HB.

| Re: Can children REALLY be this thick?????? It's part of the reason, I think, why so few people speak a second language. Its because every other country has English as a second language so why should we bother learning theirs (and their english tends to be better than that of most British people....) |

TC, if you go in via the M56 there is no toll...LOL. I wonder how these things work actually, is the toll designed to pay for the building/upkeep of said motorway. |

| Re: Can children REALLY be this thick?????? Howay there TC! I thought the rest of my comment clearly demonstrated I knew this to be an isolated toll..... and was curious as to how this happens. I would be confused if the only information I had to go on was what's in your quote...you omitted the rest! There was many an assumption hidden within the 'LOL'.
I wasn't implying you take such a detour, but know I hope you do!

Remember the Sons of Glyndwr? Brought a whole new meaning to the old TV ad saying light up your home with Welsh coal (or something like that) |
