Today, I was looking forward to a quietish day, the floor tiling in the kitchen was due to be finished, I did the ironing, made a drink and was just about to go for a shower when the world erupted.............. Actually the guy doing the tiling was trying to screw in a carpet thing inbetween the car;pet and the new tiles, he went through the mains water pipe and I had a very pressurised water feature in my kitchen diner
Now, there are a few things that I discovered about our house today.
1. When the extension was put on in the early 70's, the original stop cock found its way inside and the mains water ran to it underneath the bit where the ext meets the exterior of the original house.
2. Whilst the stopcock will turn off all the water inside the house, if you fracture the pipe that goes towards the stopcock, you need to go outside , where the water meter is and turn it off.
3. We didnt have the right tool to turn the fecking thing off

.
So, I am left standing on the new water feature, getting soaked, whilst bloke drives down to the local hardware shop to buy said "thingy".
there is also a bit of an incline inbetween the original house and the ext, the upshot of this was that the water all flowed into the dining room and not onto my nice new tiles.
So, once the water had been shut off we managed to clear the room of the tv, dvd etc, my lappy, a fridge/freezer, dining table and chairs. Now we are paddling in the dining room, the best bit of all this is that I fecking detested the carpet and it got ruined hehehehe the plumbers arrived and bought a wet/dry vac BRILLIANT, made the clean up so much easier.
So, it is all sorted and dry, the carpet is ruined (hooray) we have unearthed some retro 70's lino, which is ok for the time being and I have to say, it is so much lighter in here, and, I very nearly went outside for a cigarrette, but I didnt, dead proud of myself I am, but so very tired, worked like a dog all day.
