| I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) I have spent this week trying to get to grips with an old laptop I have been given. As the memory was very small, I had one GB of RAM installed and started to download all the applications I wanted to use.
However, today I've had major problems I've installed Mozilla Firefox 3 which has improved the speed, especially when accessing CAG through the links from my e-mailed subs, but no matter what I've read on the 'net (and believe me, I've read almost everything I can find - and tried it), I cannot download Adobe Flash Player 9 so I can't watch music videos on YouTube
The message I'm getting is:-
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.
The Adobe icon is showing on my desktop and saying that it's installed but it will not play when I open in Mozilla Firefox.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problems or could help me with this?
Thank you
Bo |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) Had a similar prob as Bo, Nat, only the other way around?
For me it was solved with a system restore.... technology and me don't mix. How it was solved with a restore is beyond me! |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) I've uninstalled and tried to re-install and ended up with about 35 icons on my desktop and still not installed - I'm on XP.
I can get it to run on IE7 but not MFF Quote:

I daren't do a system restore because I thought that just took you back to what you already had installed previously but I could try it I suppose. |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) IE7 always gave me that, when I went in chat I had to leave and come back in Foxy because of it.(watchin YT vids) Why a restore worked?..I'll never know hun! but somehow it did!!
Somehow...! I'm not sayin' try it yourself, because it could be problematic?? They should deffo make these things easier to understand! Listen to the pro's love!.

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) As I've had to re-boot so many times today, I'm not going to try it now, I'll do it in the morning.
Hey, totally agree with you on making things easier to understand though - it can be mind boggling at times.
Also, I have a Windows XP Service pack 3 to update, so if I re-boot now, I'll have to wait for that to install
I must admit, I'm tempted to ring my nice Zyxel (router) man in the morning for some more advice. He spent an hour and a half on the 'phone to me today and we are finally back online on our main PC After six weeks of being offline, he made my day. |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) Thanks Sharps
I've read two of the links already this afernoon but need to read the second one you posted. Unfortunately, tiredness has taken over tonight so I'll have a look at the second link in the morning.
I'm just going to have a quick try at uninstalling and re-installing it before bed, re-boot and see what happens.
Unfortunately, I've inadvertently clicked on the Software Update, so I'll have to wait for that to finish installing before I try.
I might just leave it to Mr Bo when he gets in tonight |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) No idea how I've managed to install Adobe FP9 with Firefox, but I have
I deleted the icon off my desktop, removed it from Add/Remove in my Control Panel, re-installed it (after closing Firefox), opened Firefox again and hey presto, I can watch YouTube videos.
So why wouldn't it let me do that yesterday?
Computers - will I ever get the hang of them?
Thanks for the help anyway |

| Re: I Give Up......."techie" help needed again :-) FYI Bo, lots of probs. have been reported on the tech blogs with both the new version of MFF (3) & also XP SP 3. Could be you hit a conflict with trying to download the two almost together.
Also some previous add-ons don't work with Firefox 3.
I've taken the coward's route & not downloaded either until the glitches are fixed. You're just too keen to get the latest gizmos!
Glad you're now able to get on to CAG again though |

Also some previous add-ons don't work with Firefox 3. Hmm, not sure. I downloaded MFF 3 in the afternoon but that's when I had to the problems with installing Adobe FP9 and before I'd been prompted to downloaded XP SP 3. Yet this morning, after downloading XP SP 3, I downloaded Adobe FP9 without any problems. I love this MFF though
