Default Re: Drop your opinions (IE Vs Firefox)

Firefox hands down, it was developed using the mindset that created the web in the first place... open for all.

I encourage everyone to throw away IE untill it complies with industry standards (or rather keep it for the time being, just dont make it your default browser).

The first part of the move to standards was achieved with IE7, by following CSS standards, but they are still using a nonstandrad scripting in the form of JScript, where as Firefox and other complient browsers (everyone else) is ECMA complient (web standards). This is the reason why sites will not work, rather just not display things correctly.

If you do find these sites, then feel free to send an email to the site owners telling them that the site stin.. er. does not work on your browser.

I dissagree with daisy's post, IE7 is a superb browser.

I use both firefox and IE7 depending on the mood im in, and IE7 is a more rounded browser, it has an unbeatable inteface and is just very good.

IE remains te browser of the masses for good reason.

Firefox is becoming more competetive, granted, but it cant beat IE7, if you configure IE7 with the appropriate security settings.

I find fireox to beto "big brother" as in it will decide for you if a website ( or more specificly a video) is dangerous.

Both are very god, but if in doubt, stick with IE7 and set up your security under the options settings.

I'd be interested to hear exactly which part of Daisy's post you disagree with, and why.

This is not accurate for the reasons you infer. As I have stated earlier, Internet Explorer has not dominated the market because it is a superior browser; it has dominated because it got bundled with the most commonly used Operating System in the world. A great many users doubtless either don't want what they see as the hassle or difficulty of changing, or are unaware that there are alternatives in the first place. Add to that the hundreds of thousands of office workers whose server admins don't allow the installation of third party software and it's easy to make the mistake of assuming the greater numbers on IE must equate to it being a better browser.

You will need to justify these statements or amend/retract them. See my posts here, here, and here for more detailed explanations of why FireFox is simply a superior browser.
