The usual crushed velvet is out - it spoils rotten when it rains, or my stuff does it seems...
The word is layers. Layers and layers and layers. Even if you do end up going in the proverbial 'wench dress', no one's going to know that you've got a thermal vest, longjohns and leggings underneath!
As for aesthetic, well, it all depends on what you want, my dear. Do you have a personal deity? Wearing their colours to a happy event like this can bring the new couple luck, even if your patron isn't usually a benevolent chap/pette.  If not colours, then a symbol.
East Coast of Scotland?! They're maaaaaad... *shiver* |

You could do something like what I did to go to Venice for the Carnival in February: Made my own cape, lined with fake fur. Dress from e-bay. I have the pattern for making capes easily if you're interested.
(And yes, I am wearing longjohns and thick socks under that!) |
