Default Angel fish

I recently bought my dad an aquarium as he always wanted one. We filled it with a good mix including 2 angels.

Well today it has laid hundreds of eggs.

Does anyone know what we do, (apart from caviar!!)

Can you partition the tank in any way? It is possible to get something for that from a good tropical fish shop.
If you can keep the rest of the fish away, the angels will rear the young themselves.
The eggs are usually laid on a sloping surface and as they hatch they will stay there for a while. Any baby angels that come adrift will immediately be sucked up by one of the parents, I think it's usually the male. The parent fish then blows the young back on to the surface.

The problem is that any other fish will eat the young and eggs if they get the chance. That is why you need to seperate them.
Even the live-bearers will eat their own young, given the chance, but the angels look after their young, tirelessly.
Also, angel fish pair for life so never seperate them.

Hi sea-side,

My angels just didn't fit it with my community tank, so I had to find them a good home, so never really experienced first hand them breeding.

I have other fish that have bred, and it's quite amazing to see the fry go from mere millimeters long to full size , and the thought of seeing angels doing it make me quite jealous.

Roosters advice is good, and the fry tank is a must. Have a look at these couple of web sites, they give good advice (about all aspects, not just angel fry) and should be useful to you.

Tropical Fish Centre - Guide To Breeding Angelfish

Tropical Fish Finder.co.uk - The ultimate UK fish keeping resource for all types of tropical and marine fish, including fish books, articles, fish shops, fish clubs and more.

Congratulations on your new arrivals, keep us informed of their progress

Thanks Louis,

I will have a look at the links now. I have separated them until i can get another tank. And moved the filter. Dont want the little ones getting sucked up.

Apparently they hatch in about 5 days.. I will let you know if any survive.
