Exclamation Police Question. Very strange thing happened

I was on my way to work this morning and was travelling down a long dark Dual Carriageway, I was doing around 70ish.
I came up to a couple of cars who were blatantly lane hogging, so I put my right hand indicator or to indicate that I wanted to overtake. (They do this in France and other countries in Europe, most roads in Europe are only 2 lanes and they don’t have the same lane hogging attitude that we enjoy in this country), anyway they ignored this and carried on in the outside lane even thought they were not overtaking and nothing was on the inside lane. So as I was not going to overtake I indicated to my left and pulled in, true to the nature of lane hoggers the car in front pulled in so I indicated back out and over took. I then came up to the lane hogger in front and again indicated to the right to let them know that I wished to overtake. At this point I noticed that the car I had just overtaken had put on his Blue flashing lights and his headlights were flashing in an alternate fashion, swiftly I thought Bugger. Now this road I was on was a national speed limit and a no stopping road and the officer was not indicating for me to pull over and stop, I assume this as it would be dangerous to stop in the first carriageway at 6:20am in pitch black. So I carried on until he indicated where to pull in, this he never done. But he did leave his flashing lights on for a while, a few miles had past an eventually he turn his lights off at the approach to a roundabout. Traffic had started to build up and there was a Q of traffic approaching it. As he had turned off his lights I moved into the outside lane and he stayed in the left. This is due to the fact that I was turning right at the roundabout; he made no intention of pursuing me any further. So, what do you think will be happening next?.

I never undertook or had the intention of undertaking, I wasn’t speeding. Will there be police knocking on my door tonight for failing to stop, even though it was a no stopping Dual carriageway.

Currently I’ve bitten through me finger nails and am working my way down to the bone. Any words of wisdom would be great

If they had wanted you to stop then you would have been left in no doubt about it, they were either late for their breakfast or as they were about to pull you they received another call to go elsewhere, I wouldnt worry about it

As someone else warned us about last week. If unsure DO NOT STOP FOR UNMARKED Police cars. I'm sure someone will put the link in here for you to read. Not every unmarked car is genuine. Drive to your nearest Police station and let them follow you or phone 112 from your mobile and ask advice, hands free of course just in case it really is the Police.

heres that post....

A bit of useful advice - verified by the Dorset Police .

The number does work from a mobile. This actually happened to someone's daughter.
Lauren was 19 yrs old and in college. This story takes place over the Christmas/New Year's holiday break. It was the Saturday before New Year and it was about 1.00pm in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend, when an UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put its lights on.

Lauren's parents have 4 children (of various ages) and have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait until they get to a service station, etc So Lauren remembered her parents' advice, and telephoned 112 from her mobile phone. This connected her to the police dispatcher she told the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her and that she would not pull over right away but wait until she was in a service station or busy area.

The dispatcher checked to see if there was a police car where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back-up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 police cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.

One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground...... ..the man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes. I never knew that bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you do not have to pull over for an UNMARKED car.

Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them I.e., put on your hazard lights) or call 112 like Lauren did.

Too bad the mobile phone companies don't give you this little bit of wonderful information. So now it's your turn to let your friends know about 112 (112 is an emergency number on your mobile that takes you straight to the police because 999 does not work if you have no signal). This is good information that I did not know!

If you have no signal to dial 999, then 112 won't work either. The difference is, if you have no signal on YOUR network, 112 will jump to another network to make a call. If you're in the underground, you have no signal so nothing will work.

Also 112 as far as I'm aware doesn't go straight through to the police, it goes to the emergency services.

Sadly, according to snopes, it's an urban legend and calling 112 will do nothing.

The story itself is an urban legend - it started as a 'co-ed' Laura in the states dialing #77 apparently, and has been adopted and sent on.

The 112 bit may well be true.

I read somewhere that 112 was a new European emergency number. This would replace 999 eventually. The two numbers would run side by side for a few years. I will see if i can find it.

It's here:

UK must improve response to 112 emergency calls says EU :: PublicTechnology.net :: e-Government & public sector IT news + job vacancies:

112 is an emergency telephone number, it's a european one that runs alongside the 999 one. It's some EU directive that I CBA to find, but the story isn't true, you're right there
