Ah, I perceive a vein of nationalistic jingoism running through the Bear Garden tonight, I must therefore assume that England has done well at something today?

Good for the English team of whatever. Shame good manners don't seem to be part of the package with their fans.

Personally, I only rejoice in this type of victory when I have taken an active part in the result. But hey, each to their own.

Excusez-moi???
The English RUGBY fans are in a class of their own, well behaved and deservedly patriotic, don't assume all fans 'Anglais' are badly behaved, that would be an incorrect sweeping statement!!

C'mon England.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly Mike, the England Rugby fans are a world away from the foottie fans.

I am only referring to the comment in the original post. OP's subsequent posts do nothing to make me change my mind, I'm sorry to say.

Sour grapes? No, as I said, I take no interest in sport whatsoever, so frankly, whoever wins or loses means nothing to me. And you know very well I'm French, Matt, no need to pretend otherwise.

So it was rugby then? Ok, thanks for clarifying.

While I relish the patriotic fervour I thought it was French rugby players who'd been beaten, 2 ex presidents, one of whom is dead, and a couple of French footballers. Surely a genuine fan would know some of the players names.

Rugby fans have an excellent reputation for being friendly, which regrettably English football fans don't tend to share.

Mind you, I am glad our lads beat the French team.

it's a figure of speech, not a reference to any of the players / management.

Is this thread over a year old? The world cup stuff was June 06 was it not? England lost as usual and a load of very made up females with posh handbags and no skin took over the papers - the sads i think they were called?
