The threat of a bank closing your account!

Hi,

I have an account with a £3000 overdraft limit and i'm right up to my limit. I reckon over the past 6 years i've been charged around £2000 maybe more. However i'm worried if I start the re-claiming process off my bank will close my account and demand the £3000 back.

Although opening another account shouldn't be a problem i'm in a catch 22 situation. Yes i can get my DD transferred and my wages transferred but what abou the £3000 I owe my bank? I can't afford to pay it so what next?

Anyone been here or have any advice?

Barclays don't as a rule close accounts. Start the process and find out how much they have taken from you. Set up a parachute account as a backup anyway.
When you get your money back, Barclays will want you to have it paid into the Barclays account to offset or clear the overdraft.

Have a look into acccounts that will match your exisitng OD facility.

nice one thanks... i think i'll set up a new account, if they want the money back they can take me to court and i'll offer to pay £20 / month! One other question, if you are disputing the amount due to the charges made against you or the daylight robbery over the past 6 years can you not put the claim by the bank on hold some how until the claims have been resolved?

Under the banking code if an account is in dispute then no action should be taken until the dispute is resolved.

excelllent! so they basically can't take you to court for the cash until the dispute is over! great, i'll be opening an account and sending that letter, thanks guys
