Question Data Protection Act letter written: cheque payable to..?

I have been trawling through the forums looking for this bit of info, but so far it remains elusive. Apologies if it is there somewhere...

I have written my Data Protection Act letter in relation to my claim against Barclaycard, but am not sure who I should make the £10 cheque payable to.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Got the standard letter from Barclaycard today with copy of info going back to May 2004, "prior to that it is stored on microfiche, not a relevant filing system, unable to provide under Data Protection Act, but send us £3 for each one you are after and we will manage to find them for you" blah blah blah

I think I will see what I can find about the experience of others who have had this response and write again.

Also, the envelope I received the information in was stamped "Private and Confidential" but was barely stuck down. How bad is that!!! For all I know, I was not the first person to open it.

After writing again to Rachel Shiels about my Data Protection Act request, I received a second fob off letter. B/card are still hiding behind the microfiche thing.

I have umm'd and ahh'd for a few days, and called the Information Commisioners Office in the meantime. They told me they would look into the microfiche argument if I were to fill in a complaint form and send it to them. I am going to do this, only because I told B/card I would if they did not help. Not expecting any miracles from the Information Commissioner though!

Have finally decide to guestimate what B/card owe me, based on that useless print out. I have found a bit on the print out that tells me the number of times one payment was missed, also the number of times two payments were missed. Just above that part of the print out is something thats says "months overlimit". I will use that in my calculation too. Going to have another flick through to see what else I can add!
No doubt if I over estimate, B/card will put me straight. Of course I will ask them to prove it.

Quite enjoying all this!

Hi
I received my letter from Barclaycard yesterday asking me to send £3 per statement as statements are not on their computer system prior to May 2004. Can you confirm what I need to do now as my account was opened in January 2004.

Also, I am quite concerned re Barclays as not so many people are successful. Can they close my BarclayCard account down and demand the full payment of the account. This is what scares me as I owe more in charges than what I spent on my card.

Thanks
Nancies

Hi Nancies,

Have a look at these threads, they are the ones that gave me lots of help when working out what to do. As for the account closure question, I can't help you as my account was paid off ages ago and they are unlikely to try that one on me!

Well, I said I was ready for Barclaycard, but I have done nothing for months!

I finally complained to the Information Commissioner's Office about B'card hiding behind the microfiche thing and eventually got a reply from them in my favour... they told B'card to do as they were told and provide what I had requested. However, B'card sent my the missing statements in Dec 06, and only went back 6 years from then, not 6 years from my original request in May 06. I have just added together all they owe me, and have guesstimated the charges between May and Dec 06 and put all that on my schedule of charges. No doubt they will disagree, but then they had better provide the correct info so I can work out the right amount!

Here we go again...
