Calculating new interest

Barclaycard have offered me £175.00 of a £535.00 request for return of charges. Before I had time to turn down the offer, they added it onto my Barclaycard account and then, cleverly, reduced my limit accordingly.
I have not accepted this offer, but will in part payment. My question is how do I go about working out my 8% penalties on the amount now it has been reduced. Can I make the offered cash be the last £175 of my bank charges, hereby gaining me more interest in the earlier charges, or is there a set procedure I must follow in this event.

You can calculate the interest on the whole amount you're claiming until the date you received the part-payment, then calculate it on the balance thereafter.

I'd be interested to hear others views on this. After all this must have happened to lots of others.

I am currently calculating 8% interest on the whole amount and using the part payment to offset the final amount due.

Would this stand up in court - assuming it gets that far?

You're claiming under s.69 County Courts Act 1980 which allows interest to be awarded on all or any part of the amount claimed, including on amounts paid prior to judgment so acting as I stated falls within the provisions of the Act.
