Can Anyone Help Me Please..?

Hello everyone i am in need of some expert advice here, about a year ago myself & my wife split up & i moved out & she stayed in our home we was living at,so due to the fact i was unemployed at that time she put in a claim for housing benefit/council tax ect,we have a 3 yr old son so she was getting child benefit,so after 3 months or so we got our things sorted & i moved back in & have been with her since but the local council hadnt sorted out her claim as shes from South America & they said they needed to do more checks ect,it took them SIX months to sort it & in the end they told us she wasnt entitled to any help from the goverment although our son is a british citizen,so this is why i am making this thread NOW we owe the landord over a grand as weve been paying it of £20 per week for 6 months and before that was paying £10 per week as hes simply demanded that amount,now he's sent us a letter two days ago stating that if we dont pay a "Substantial" amount of the arrears by today (Friday 1June) 12 oclock lunchtime he will evict us..??
what a change in tune eh..?
also my other problem is we now owe the council £271 in council tax & theyve got a Bailiff involved who tends to post letters through our door & not knock then charge us,anyway we made arrangements to pay the money back last year but ran into difficulty's we then started to recive letters from the Bailiffs (Rosendales) & now the amount we owe is £784.....
its more than doubled in there charges surely this isnt fare...
can anyone put any light on this for me PLEASE

Not really sure whay tou can do. But try the Citizens advice bureau and you could also try your local MP.

Your landlord will have to go to court to get a possession order to evict you, anyway - he cannot simply turn you out on the street. As you are more than two months in arrears with your rent, he will obtain the court order - but this can take a little time. For specific advice about eviction, please post details of your tenancy agreement in the Landlords and Tenants forum.
