Angry council tax/bailiffs

Hi,
As well as reclaiming bank charges,I have an ongoing issue with my council tax & exactly what I owe. I have been in touch with Equita this was back in Sep to get a breakdown of charges and payments but there are major descrepencies, so I contacted my local authority, who promised to look into it for me and agreed the charges didn't seem right, they haven't responded I have called /emailed on numerous occasions, I even spoke to the manager of the council tax office, who said he would put the bailiffs on hold whilst it was all sorted out. I have said I want to come to a reasonable repayment amount. Now Im receiving letters from Equita bailiffs again, this time saying that I have failed to accept their offer to pay half of the debt this month, I haven't even entered into a conversation with them about repayments. I have tried all day to get through to my local authority and emailed them again.
Has anyone got any ideas as what to do next.
Thankyou
Conncat

Send the gits off a Subject Access Request by recorded delivery thats to equita as this should make the ground move for them. look under the bank templates section for this and adjust it according to your need.

Hi,

i have had dealings with bailiff's in the past with these sorts of problems.

All i can suggest is that if you are getting nowhere with the council tax office then talk to the head of finance at the council.

I was charged twice for my council tax and no one at the tax office would listen or cared they just wanted their money. Once i called the head of finance i finally got somewhere.

If at the very worst they do still visit remember do not let them in. They can only gain peaceful entry, not forced. even if they claim otherwise. They have to have a court warrant first for this. If they gain entry to your house they are allowed to force entry next time.

hope you have some luck

Ihave had this ongoing problem with Equita and my council tax, On numerous occasions the council have said they would look into the descrepencies for me, and nothing I called, emailed eventually I had an email out the blue from the council saying they would put the bailiffs on hold to sort out the descrepencies, I have at no time refused to pay infact I have payed some and this is where the problem is.
Today I have received a letter from Equita stating that Quote:-
We refer to our previous letter in relation to our attendance at your home. Our bailiffs have identified sufficient goods to remove.
Whilst the goods may not cover the whole amount they will discharge a proportion of the outstanding council tax.
We have re-scheduled our removal teams to be back in your area next week and would prefer you were in attendance etc un quote.

At no time have any bailiffs been to my house , this letter is a total lie,
there has never been attendance to my home.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do next?
Thankyou

If your council is anything like mine, they'll have a Complaints department. So send a copy of whatever communications you're sending to the Council Tax dept & Equita also to the Complaints section. If you can, get their fax number & fax it to them - that will give you a receipt proving when it was sent. Faxes sent to the Council Tax dept got me nowhere, but faxes sent to complaints had to be dealt with within a certain time period, & were.

I have a feeling the SoL Act does not apply to council tax.

Have a search on this site under 'council tax' or perhaps pm Sequenci who seems to know the ins & outs.

Eg
