Default Visit from Jacobs Bailifs

Last Thursday when me and my husband came home we found a noice from Jacobs demanding our oustanding council tax f £236 plus cost. I imediately logged onto CAG website and rea with interest. I printe of the letter and sen i to the council and Jacobs. I faxed the copy though to Jacobs so they would have it on that date.

I had alrady mde apayment to the council for £126 on the Monday. I made an offer to pay the final £110 net month whn my husband get his tax rebate.

Whn I got home on Friday another notiv as pushed through the letter box. Th amount outstanding on the ltter they left has risn to £296.50.

Yesterday I was in hospital all day having to have an angiogram - I had very bad news about my heart. I hav been u all night worrying about the impact my hear condition will have on my husband and my 2 children.

I got up this morning to a letter from the council. Thabking me for the payment of £126.00 - but the rmaining debt is to remain with Jacobs and that all fees are payable to them. They also went into the if you had paid on time and kpt to the agreement we wouldn't be in this situation.

To be honest my priorities are with my husband and children not my councl tax arrears.

For the last 3 years I have had to fight to get my bank charges back from the Lloyds Tsb, Had to fight to get the early redemption fee back from GMac and now fighting bailiffs where will it end?

Thank god for the CAG.

Hi. Im sorry to hear things are not going to well at the moment.

Turning to the baiiffs, there are 2 important things to remember.

1. Never let them into your property.

2. Never sign anything you are not sure about.

Turning to their fees, the maximum they can charge you is £24.50 for the first visit, and £18 for the second.

If you dont keep your eye on their charges, they will rip you off something rotten.

Have a read through this and good luck.

We must stand up to these robbers.

Thanks for that Tonycee it was very useful.

I have had no warning whatsoevr from the council that this would be passed to the bailiffs. Do you know if they should have informed me that if I didn't pay the baiiffs would come?

I decided to write a letter bck to th council telling them about my medical condition andthat I do not need this stress of bailiffs coming. I am hoping to appeal to ther better nature and that they will take this debt back.

Jacobs sent me a letter today to arrang a payment plan, the final comment was that a payment plan would not b set up until the neccessary paperwork was completed. I won't agree to signing anything, but I will carry on paying the council.

I received a letter from the council last week asking for a income expenditure form. They said in order to set a payment plan I needed to complete this and return it with a offer of payment. I sent the completed form back and offered to pay £35 per month to clear the £578 arrears.

Today I received the letter back from them. They said that they have taken everything into account and as the council tax is a priority the will only accept £100 per month of the arrears and we will still haveto pay £133 for this years council tax.

We just can't afford to pay £233 to the council, with everything else we pay. I decided to contact the council by phone. I spoke to a manager. she said that after several arrangements being set and then broken they were not prepard to accept anything less than £100 per month of the arrears. I told her that it wasn't a case of refusing to pay it, but a case of we couldn't pay it. I explained to her that due to my health it has put a strain on us financially.

She was very unsympathic and basically told me that if I don't pay then I would receive a visit from the bailiffs. I know we will struggle to make these payments we are on the edge now with just everyday bills. I will sit know and wait for the bailiffs to come as I know I can't pay any more.
