Ok, in a nutshell. Due to paying too much attention to non-priority debts, someone I know fell into arrears with their council tax to the sum of £310.00. Not a lot to some, but when you ain't got it, it may as well be £1000's. Any oop,upshot is somewhere along the line B & S have obtained a liability order and the guy had until 6pm yesterday to pay £100. If he didn't his'failure to comply will result in further recovery action.....which will incur additional costs'. Well, he couldn't-so (a) what will happen now & (b) can he do anything. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

General rules are:
On no account allow them entry into his property.
If he has a car park it away from his property.
Dont enter into telephone conversations with them, communicate in writing.
Pay the council as much and as often as he can direct. It can be done online.
Dont believe a word the buggers tell him.

i'd get him to pay the council direct
it wouldn't hurt either to got and talk to them, they can be very understanding when presented with the honest facts.

also bear in mind there are fixed charges baillifs can charge in relation to council tax issues. and charge no more than that, they often claim such things as van charges, where they claim they needed a van to collect goods. if they have no walkin possession signed, then they cannot charge that.

might be an idea to search for baillif charges too.

Have a look at the national debtline website. Lots of info about what they can and cant do and also a break down of the charges they can charge.
Im in the middle of fighting the bailiffs myself, its scary and stressful but paying the bill is hard enough without all these fee's added on top. Ive made direct online payments to my council, the system can not refuse the payment were as at the offices they might try to. Id say keep making these payments and in the mean time keep the bailiffs tied up with requests for info. Hopefully he'll have paid the council in full before they realise.
