Abbey charges £80 for 10p overdrawn! Hi, I sent a letter to Abbey regarding £80 charges on my partners account for going 10p overdrawn (initially) using a visa debit card (the atm balance mislead by not being up to date) They sent the standard bullsh*t letter today "we are investigating, blah blah...we will get back to you within two weeks" The charges are due to be debited on the 13th of June, but having read a few threads it appears they are getting tough.
Although we want his matter resolved, (in our favour obviously) I would be inclined to hedge the bet, ie. withdraw all money form the account (we need to open another bank account as benefits are paid in, and they are obviously not safe in the Abbey) appart from 1 pence, before the penalty charges are deducted. Ok, but would they pour petrol on the fire with more charges for going overdrawn again, albeit at their hand?
1. I have read something about unlawfull 'unauthorised lending' by deliberately making the account overdrawn by applying charges, would this apply to the above scenario?
2. When an account is 'in dispute' it is frozen, including charges, is it the bank that declares this or can we invoke this state on the account? |
