Exclamation Beware copies of statements

I have asked for and recieved copies of my statements from Abbey. When I looked closely at the so called copies the "charges incurred this month" that was nicely tabulated on my original statements is not present on the replacement copies. Abbey appear to have deleted this section in order to try and hide the amounts they have charged me. Has anyone else come across this??

Interesting, i've not come accross that before, although on my Data Protection Act print outs, there were some obvious places that had been blanked out, not sure whether it was because it was someone elses details or not though.

Are the charges still listed on the statement itself?

Neil.

Yep, received my copies today, and where the charges normally show, they've been blanked out - they don't want to make this easy for us, do they?!

As this is purposefully altering/tampering with your original statements with the intention of hiding information, is there not legal recourse against Abbey for this?

yes same here !! they have removed the charges from the bottom of the page.
but when i looked at the years statements i worked out that there was charges of £140.00 in 1 year. im sure that there was more than that but cant prove it if theyve been altering the statements!

Sorry, I don't understand this. When I had an Abbey account the statement comprised at least two pages.

The first was a header page summaring the movements on the account since the last statement. It then set out the list of charges below together with the date that these would be extorted from the account. The second and subsequent pages showed all the transactions and the charges appeared on the date specified.

I know the older statements didn't do it like this. Is it these that you are talking about?

I have noticed this too. I didn't actually see it until I found an old, original statement and there were clear differences in this respect.

So, if it's a copy statement, perhaps they'd like to explain their intrepretation of the word "copy".

I trust that the charges on the "copies" appear correctly in the transaction lists?

I can't believe that they wouldn't - surely?

Being blunt, I wouldn't put anything beyond Abbey and if you have the slightest doubt it's well worth challenging.

Yes, I noticed this, and also I had a copy statement that had nov-feb rolled into one, but it only gave me charges to be debited for february on the front summary. It was only when I looked through the statements page by page I found the charges for nov, dec and jan. Beware!

Absolutely astounding.

Someone needs to stop this ..........a blatant abuse of the very process they are being asked to conform with.

Do they think they are above the law ?

I didnt even bother looking at their total I went through every transaction, their ones are easy to spot as they dont put a little icon next to them so scan down the list looking for transactions with no pic there are others that arent charges but its the easiest way to go through them.

I quite enjoyed doing it that way £703 in 18 months hehehehe

Hold on, hold on. Are you lot trying to tell me that it's only the totalled figure of charges that are missing, but the actual individual transactions are displayed?

If so, it's the individual transactions you need, NOT the totals, as you will not be able to calculate either of the interest elements (see my spreadsheet - plug, plug) without this detailed information.

Or am I missing something?

Sorry to dissapoint you, but Abbey has been doing it this way for a very long time. I think it may have something to do with when they changed the design of the statements, which was a few years ago now.
