Default Hello Consumer Action Group

I would have posted earlier but was too engrossed in Teebum's thread. What a brilliant story.
I need to help my daughter claim back her charges from Abbey. She says her head is too full to be able to do anything for herself.
My 1st question is would she be considered as a single complainer if I helped her.
How can she get the bank to accept calls etc from me on her behalf?
She thought she had closed her account with abbey but they are still taking £30 a month from her account.
thanks
Carol

Hi carolcecelia

Welcome to the Abbey forum!

Have a look at this thread, Andy's mum was in a similar position to you she acted on her son's behalf and won!

Andys Mum update ** WON !!! **

Also, have a look at the FAQ's and the step by step instructions
Example Step-By-Step Instructions - Now updated to reflect the OFT court judgment

this should help put you on the right path!

Good Luck!

Hope this helps!

Thanks KnellyK. What I have done so far.

wrote out the Date Protection Act request letter ( I don't have a printer) for my daughter to complete and send to Abbey registered office. Attached a rough copy for her to keep.

Wrote out the preliminary approach letter because she has two years worth of bank statements.
Sent these to her by express mail. She should have them by wednesday as it is a public holiday here on monday.

A bit of background

Her husband has been a customer with abbey for at least 15 years and she became a joint holder of his account at some stage.
They separated three years ago and she started her own account with abbey. They are in the process of divorcing and awaiting the final papers.
Question

If the joint account has had penalty charges applied do they both need to claim on that account before she claims on her own account?

I must say that this site is wonderful.

Don't know how it works with a couple in the middle of a divorce but normally, if either person can operate the account then they don't need the other person's signature to reclaim the charges.

If she/you can keep the two claims separated in your head, cos it can get difficult to manage with more than one claim ongoing, there is no reason why she has to wait, she can claim on her account anytime she likes.

HTH and good luck.
