Default Abbey taking money from child benefit, tax credits and housing benefits.

I met a lady last week who while we were chatting about this and that i mentioned the CAG and bank charges etc.She then proceeded to tell me one of the strangest charge storys,i have heard. She has been on benefits for a good few years receiving child benefits, tax credits, and housing benefits. She like many has missed now and again a few direct debits. She told me over the last few years over 1k has been removed.I asked a few more questions.By this time she must have thought i didnt believe her,so she said meet me here next week same time.Ok i said i will. And i did.She produced bank statements and it was all true, including one week that despite being clearly marked CB,that had been taken-TC,had been taken, and HB had been part taken.I really at the moment have nothing else to say except shame on you Shabby -Abbey.Tawnyowl,

All banks do this, benefits are source of income like wages are.

TOTAL RUBBISH!

Look Here

Is the bank taking your Benefits ?

Benefits should not be used to pad a Banks pocket.

There is legislation for this somewhere.

you're wrong with regards to the bank taking charges. I hope you are talking social security administration act 1992 section 187 which is not bank charges within the legislation or Tax credit act 2002, s.45 for the same reason.

The OP can use their right of appropriation of course.

The banks pockets would not be 'padded' if customers did not incur bank charges as you put it. Makes no difference if they are on benefits or earning a wage, if they go overdrawn and bounce cheques etc the bank charge them.

I believe this is the actual wording of the legislation you are seeking:Social Security Administration Act 1992 Miscellaneous Certain benefit to be inalienable **187- Subject to the provisions of this Act, every assignment of, or charge on-(a) benefit as defined in section 122 of the Contributions and Benefits Act;(b) any income-related benefit; or(c) child benefit, and every agreement to assign or charge such benefit shall be void; and, on the bankruptcy of the beneficiary, such benefit shall not pass to any trustee or other person acting on behalf of his creditors. Hope it helps! Pezz1753
