Hi there
I've read a lot in the past 4 days and I decided to make the first move earlier this week by checking my 5 years of statements. There are 6 statemenst missing but even so the charges add up £2207. I phoned Abbey yesterday to get the missing 6 statements. I had the numbers and dates but they only send out by year. Initially I said I'd like the past 5 years but was told anything beyond 2 years incurred a charge of £10. I took the the offer of last 2 years for free and then read through the forums again. I back for the rest and they said they'd send out the past 5 years for £10 which I paid. It would take a month to get to me. Looks like I'll be getting 2 sets. What was surprising was that the advisor was very helpful.

I'll be keeping watch to see if they do turn up. I know the forums keep saying to send off a Data Protection Act letter but it seems easier to do this and it doesn't alert them to what you're up to. I also set up a parachute account with NatWest yesterday as advised.
For my sins I've also got a business account with them. For the first time since I opened it, over 3 years ago, I went overdrawn last week due to 2 big cheques (tax) going out. They charged me £64 for 2 direct debits which they 'paid'. The account is back in credit so I phoned up today to complain and they happily refunded one charge. They said I was allowed one refund of a charge in 12 months. I was not aware of this and I wonder if others are aware of this. I'll be chasing for the other charge in due course even though it was my 'fault'.
I'll be looking at the joint account once I get those statements in full. Should be interesting.
