Default Charged £35 for going one pound overdrawn

Hi there

Need some advice before kicking off at the abbey tomorrow

Have a basic account which i'm very good at keeping balanced and very careful at not incurring charges.

An £11 council tax charge went through last week when i was £10 in credit - as I had been told by the Abbey there was a £10 overdraft on this account (standard), I wasn't too alarmed by this, considering that it would go through.

Imagine my surprise on opening a letter today which claims the debit was returned and I am to incur a £35 penalty charge.

Has anyone got any advice on this - am gonna be onto them first thing in the morning.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome.

Before you start please have a thorough read of the FAQs (there's a Step by Step guide here too). You may want to print these out to refer to later

Then look at other threads in your bank's forum, so as you know what you can expect to happen

You need to spend 2 or 3 days gradually getting your head round everything.

There's a lot to take in, but it's time well spent and will ensure that you succeed in your claim without problems

When you feel confident that you understand the process and the various stages involved, start a new thread in your bank's forum and post your progress and any questions there

Good luck

No, you're not all. There's nothing to apologise for.

If you get the £35 refunded with a phone call, that's fine.

Are you sure there are no other charges going back 6 years because you can claim those too. If so the FAQs and step by step guide will show you how to go about claiming them back

Hi Mate i saw your post so thought id let you know if you dont already i also have an abbey basic account but in the last 9 months i think, they have taken away the £10 overdraft i know because i went into abbey and was told that it was no longer available but it might be comming back soon. There was no definate time when it would be reinstated and abbey are notorious for being useless.
I hope you got it sorted anyway mate.
