Default £50 goodwill gesture from Abbey

Hi all,

I am between stages two and three at the moment with my letters. My second letter was sent on 28th June and is as follows:

Re: Default charges on account number (edit)
Dear Sir/Madam,
We refer only to default charges that have been applied to our account by Abbey National PLC, amounting to a total of £652.00 and only between the dates of 2/3/2005 and 30/5/2006, and are broken down as follows:

24/03/2005 £32.00
22/12/2005 £140.00
21/01/2006 £140.00
21/02/2006 £80.00
22/05/2006 £260.00
____________________
Total: £652.00

We have been loyal customers of Abbey National for approximately ten years. We have always maintained our account reasonably well and believe that the charges applied to our account do not reflect the cost to the bank of our account going into unauthorised overdraft. We are also happy to waive any interest from the sum of these charges unless it is taken any further legally.

We therefore ask that you repay the amount of all these charges totalling £652.00. We are happy for you to contact us on XXXXX XXXXXX(Mobile) or XXXXX XXXXXX (Home) to discuss the matter further.

Yours faithfully,

I received a letter from Abbey on friday 7/7 stating the usual stuff about how they think their charges are fair when compared to other banks etc. They have also offered, no stated, that they will refund £50 of the money we are asking for as 'a goodwill gesture' to us.

My question is this:
How do i proceed with letter three, when it says

You only need to send this letter if you have already written to the bank explaining that you are a loyal customer (Letter Two), and that letter did not get a result.

Is this £50 deemed as a result by Abbey or the courts?
How should i continue, guys?

Personal details removed for your security

I have no idea where you have those templates from but they certainly don't look like the letters from this site.

If you follow our step-by-step guide and use the templates available on this site you won't go wrong.

I made the same mistake you made, seems like you have used the which magazine template letter. I thought the template letters on this site were to aggresive, but that just allows the bank to think you are a pushover. I sent an edited version of the first and second letter templates on this site. First response from shAbby was phone call from awkward pleb who offered £50.00 repayment, when my reply was speachless he felt even more awkward and uped it to £55.00, his limit not mine. I was speachless because the charges were over £7000.00, he was awkward because he knew this, I declined his offer. Then received bog standard sod off letter a few days later. Moral of this storry is use the template letters on this site deviating as little as possible. The banks think we are all idiots to be ripped off.
