Default Im going to take Abbey for every penny I can get

I don't often get mad. I've banked with Abbey for over 20 years. I have a small monthly income paid around 15th of the month which doesn't vary.
On 25th October they paid a DD which took me 0.49p O/D I got charged on 24th November £25 - Un/Auth/Instant OD Monthly Fee & £35.00 - Instant OD Request Fee for Paid DD . On 26th Nov I complained and managed to get both reversed and refunded, but as that couple of charges went out of my account before the refund it took the account £12.42 O/D which generated a £25 charge on December 24th.

On 19 Dec I had a purchase go through which took the account 0.73p O/D but on 20th Paid in £20 to cover any shortfall. On 24th dec I was again hit £60 charges for the Nov misdemoneanours which took me £10.98 O/D which generated another £60 in January. That 0.73p O/d then came in so far the 0.49p OD had cost me £120.

The first £25 they took in Charges in Jan sent the O/D to £16, the DD came in so I picked up another £25 charge in February. That takes my 0.49p O/D cost to £145. Because my money comes in after my statement date of 2nd my account remaind in O/D until 6th March when a payment came in, so I generated another £25 charge in April taking the charges to £170 again sending the account into O/D giving me another £25 on 24th May, which in turn will sink me into O/D and another charge in June. Up to the end of May this 0.49p will have cost me £195.

I telephoned Abbey today and asked if they'd reverse the May charge just to stop the rot - A lady in India asked her supervisor and got the authority to not charge me and told me she would arrange it there and then, " Just hold the line please" - then the line went dead - so I phoned again and got some girl in the UK - "nothing is noted on our system and we wont stop the charges, you are only allowed one refund a year!"

So this 0.49p O/D is going to cost me over £200 in damned charges and I can't stop it unless I get more money, or just enough to stop me going overdrawn when their charges come in. On limited income it's hard.

Now I have other things going on with Abbey just now and my 20 yrs loyalty has well and truely run out and I am going to squeeze the blood out of his outfit once and for all - I am totally sick and tired of this kind of 'customer service' in a time when 'Total Customer Fairness' is the order of the day. Abbey - watch out !! Your day has come..and so has mine!

a VERY VERY ANGRY Tom

Hi, Tom.

Agree with all you say, the Banks are a total nightmare. No matter how long your with them they don't give a dam.

I was with Bank of Scotland for over 25 years and after my first claim against them, they gave me 30 days to close my account

Did'nt stop me taking them all the road and have now claimed back every penny they ever took from me, including interest

When I complained to them about the charges, they were never interested.
I must have about 20 letters from them saying they would not give me any charges back.

Like you say, once the charges start to build up, it's almost impossible to get back in control, made my life a misery for years.

Take them as far as you can, your claim will more than likely get stayed but you want to get in the queue when they come round to paying out.

Regards.

Scott.

very typical I'm afraid Tom. if you are familiar with the process, get your prelim in, if not, have a good read up on this site and go for the throat. as you only have circa £200 it will only cost you £30 or so to issue a claim in court.
